10 Life Reminders from Brandy, Behind the Music

After watching Brandy's Behind the Music Special on VH1 tonight, I was reminded of what a powerful voice she spoke to me and for me as a young girl coming of age. Right about now, I seriously want to listen to Never Say Never on repeat. Not only that, but there were many things about her life and journey that reminded me to always see life fully. Here were some of the takeaways from the show.

Life and love is better after 30.
Self doubt might kill you.
No one should have to remind you that you are your own woman.
You cannot afford to be someone we are not.
Success is hard to reach and even harder to maintain.
Heartbreak is inevitable.
Joy is optional.
The lie is often worse than the crime.
Imitation is palpable.Fake is fake.
Facing shame is a part of becoming a better woman.

I can't wait for her comeback. After all she's faced and become, the next album HAS to be great.

What did you think of Brandy, Behind the Music? What life lessons were you reminded of?

4 DIY Mother's Day Gifts Your Mom Won't Be Ashamed Of

Lets face it; shopping for a great Mother's Day gift is hard. Not because you're a terrible child and don't know her well enough though. The fact of the matter is that no gift is good enough for our mothers so trying to find the perfect gift can easily escapes us no matter how many Google or Pinterest searches we do. This year give your mom something personal, sincere, and affordable by making the gift yourself. Making the gift yourself will guarantee she'll love and cherish it no matter what. She's your mom and she's sort of obligated to after all. Just follow these tutorials step-by-step, add your own little twist, and she is sure to love  part of it! Happy DIY'in!

1. Make her a signature scented candle.
Sure you can walk into any Body Shop or Home Goods and find your mom a fragrant candle melody, but what about making her her very own signature scent? Maybe combine a mixture of different scented oils that remind you of your childhood memories of her and name them after reminiscent moments in time. Get the tutorial deets here courtesy of A Pair & A Spare.

2. Design her a stylish breakfast tray.
Trays add such a refined touch to a bedside table and breakfast looks great on them. Think about how your mom could use one and DIY a design to perfection. You could even personalize it and stencil in her initials or her favorite quote in the corner. Check out the Glitter Guide for a very chic and easy how-to.

3. Make her a pair of earrings.
No woman can have too many pairs of earrings. Revamp an old pair of your mom's earrings or create a trendy pair you'd love to see her in. P.S. I Made This has all the to-do for this fancy how-to.

4. Make her a lovely Billy Ball centerpiece for the house.
Mothers love to decorate their homes and there's nothing more classic than a beautiful centerpiece. Do the decorating for her and make her a super cool, super modern, and playful Billy Ball centerpiece. For a lasting effect, faux flowers are best. Design Sponge has you covered on the instructions here.

If she has a hard time accepting your DIY gift, tell her all the cool kids are doing it.
Til next time, Socialites!

4 Tips for Wearing Neon Without Letting it Wear You

Neon is without a doubt the most relevant trend this spring. Everyone can wear this trend and look great, but neon is also dangerous in the sense that if you overdo it, it'll be very obvious. Whether you are a color coward thinking of sporting this trend or someone who loves color and has purchased all the season's key pieces in orange, yellow, and pink, here are a few simple tips for wearing neon without letting it wear you.

1.Make sure everything fits and flatters you well. Neon draws attention to everything so a shirt that's hugging on your boobs too tight or a blazer that is too big for your frame can easily detract from or distort your look.

2. Go for a nude shoe. You just can't go wrong with a nude shoe. With all the colors going on, nude on your feet will instantly neutralize your look and keep the focus on your gorgeous color scheme elsewhere.

3. Color block it. When all else fails, color block it! As long as you stick to clean lines, mixing other neon colors really can't hurt.Pair a yellow blazer with a blue top and pink pencil skirt and make a pack of highlighters out of yourself. As long as it all fits and flows you're winning. Don't forget the nude shoes!

4. Simplify it black or white. Don't worry about trying to make the trend more stylish or more than what it is. Neon speaks for itself. Adding a simple white tee or sheer button-down blouse to a pair of neon jeans can tone down your look, minimize any 80's-retro-ness, and create softness. Pairing black will make the neon color pop, add subtle edge and sophistication to the playfulness of the neon.

Bonus tip: Remember that the neon trend may not stick around long. Purchase pieces wisely shopping sales, low-end shops, or even thrift stores (Check out Looking Fly on A Dime's 'Thrifting Trends" advice.) Save your money on investment pieces and classic items you can wear forever.

All this talk about neon is making me excited for summer! Happy styling, socialites!

Beyonce Leg Lockin' in Louboutins With Jay

Just thought I'd bring you a late evening post of "Bey and her boo on the court leg lockin, all up in the front so the paps keep flockin'." (<---name that tune)

Loving the Loubs and the romance of them matching each other's swag. If neon were a classic trend, I'd totally splurge on these bad boys but let's not be ridiculous or broke in my case. Would you ever or do you ever match with your beau? I think Jay and Bey did it subtly and tastefully thus, successfully.

6 Perfect Dresses That Compliment Your Easter Fashion Sense

Where I'm from your Easter outfit is slightly more important than the holiday itself. Whether or not you actually go to church it is expected that you are well dressed and polished on Easter Sunday if only to go for a Sunday drive. While I don't agree with this superficial rationale entirely, I do believe that Easter outfits are kind of a big deal and wouldn't want any of you to be dressed in anything less than the perfect floral, frilly, sunny dress come Sunday morning. Whether you are actually going to church, hosting an Easter egg hunt, or simply lounging around here are six dresses to inspire your Easter fashion sense. Happy Easter!

Which of these would you wear? What are you wearing for Easter?
